Soundslide of Sisterhood Retreat

This past weekend, my sorority held their annual Sisterhood Retreat.  Here is a soundslide of the event.  This was one of our project's for capstone and I thought it ended up being alot easier than expected.

Happy Friday!

In a few short weeks from now I will be headed to Brazil over Spring Break and I can't wait.  This snow and ice is driving me crazy!

So to brighten my day and hopefully yours, I want to share a picture with you from the last time I traveled abroad.  This is a picture from Portofino, Italy in late June.  So far, I have to say it the most beautiful place I've ever been.

I look forward to being able to share what I learn about Brazilian agriculture and my pictures with you when we get back.

Podcasting 101

The podcast that I listened to was called My Brilliant Plan.  It was from the website This Life and the podcast I listened to was brought to us by several journalists.  It was a very interesting podcast, maybe better described as slightly weird.  The first story I heard was about a father who put his sons pictures and 'death dates' on his pre-ready headstone for when he died.  The funny thing was that the sons hadn't died yet.  They had stolen money from their father and he felt liked the had already died due to their actions and felt the need to make a statement with his headstone.  Strange way to make a statement if you ask me...

The other part of our assignment was read about how podcasting works.  After I've read this, I feel that podcasting is a great alternative to get information and entertainment out to listeners. Podcasting gives people the chance to be as creative as they want and to talk about anything they want.  It is a way to reach others with the same interests as yourself and possibly make a profit out of doing something you enjoy.  I also found in very interesting that the article mentioned that you should tie in the podcast with a blog or website to advertise.  So hopefully once I get my first podcast done, you can listen to it from here-My blog!

O the weather outside is frightful....

Today the weather was crazy! When I left for class at 7:30 a.m. it was around 60 degrees and beautiful.  By the time I went outside to go get some food for lunch at Brady, it had dropped at least 20 degrees and the wind was blowing hard.  Soon after it was time to head to capstone and walking past the doors, I noticed little balls of ice/sleet coming down.  Several classmates were walking into the building and they said it felt like "rock salt falling out of the sky." All I know is that I can't wait til spring gets here and its around 65 degrees all the time!

Here's a picture of the ice balls that were falling down.  It's not the best picture, but it should give you an idea of what they looked like.  I took it while walking back to my car.  Brr!!!

Blog Assignment

This blog http://americasnexttopfashion.blogspot.com/ is one written by a Ag Journalism graduate from MU. This is a blog that is for fun rather than informative. She can express her views about fashion and the entertainment community freely and let others be entertained by it. I enjoy checking in on it every once in awhile to see if anything has been updated, just for the entertainment. It's a good place to go when you need to take a break if you are interested in these things.

I think blogs are interesting in the way they provide information. This particular blog provides some information about fashion, but no information that is timely and newsworthy. However, some blogs do provide information that could be comparable to CNN or Fox News. This causes the conflict that comes up often when concerning blogs: Who are the journalists?

I personally believe that blogs should be used for more of a recreational use instead of informative use. If you decide to go to someone's blog to find out the latest news, its hard to know if it is going to be accurate or not. Bloggers don't have editors standing over their shoulders telling them to accuracy check their information or get another source. I don't think that everyone who has a blog is a journalist. I think if its a blog produced by a newspaper or other news outlet, then it is credible, but others aren't. Blogs like the one that I chose for this assignment is an example of the type of blogs that I feel should be created. It gives someone a place to write about something they are interested in and express their opinion. It provides links to the fashion items that it talks about and it doesn't leave anyone asking where the information came from.

Some of my work

Here's some of the stories that I wrote during my time at the Columbia Missourian.  Hope you enjoy them!
